Yogyakarta Batik

Yogyakarta (also called Jogjakarta) has beautiful batik patterns. Characteristic of Yogyakarta batik lies in the beauty of batik patterns that use primary colors brown soga and blue wedelan. Both coloring are natural dye. By using these two basic colors and processed with the kerokan technique, Yogyakarta batik can be developed into hundreds of motifs. The beauty of Yogyakarta Batik is due to a harmonious blend between the fields, line and entries.

According to the patterns, Yogyakarta batik are divided into two groups, namely geometric and non-geometric. Included in a geometric pattern is Ceplok, Kawung, Nitik and Lereng or Parang. While that include non-geometric group is Semen.

Almost every Yogyakarta batik patterns have a philosophical and symbolic meaning. Manner, place and time of use also has its own rules. For example Grompol batik pattern, worn at the time of the marriage ceremony. Grompol means converge or become one. Expected accumulation of everything that is good, for example fortune, happiness, descendants and others.
